American’s wake up! The greatest county in the world is being “changed” right before our eyes and without our consent. It is true that the majority of our nation’s voters cast their ballot for President Obama, the first black president in our nation’s history. They voted for change. They voted to put lie to the notion that we are a racist nation. They chose to believe this young unknown from Chicago, even as they either didn’t know, or didn’t care about his extreme leftist views, his personal relationships with racist preachers, convicted, yet unrepentant terrorists, and many, many other nefarious characters and organizations such as ACORN. They chose to believe that he meant what he said about “change” and “hope.” About throwing out the lobbyists and demanding complete transparency in our elected government officials. They chose to believe Obama when he said he would not raise taxes on any American making less than $250,000.
Yet, barely seven months into his presidency Obama has failed to live up to any of his promises. His presidency has already become one of the most secretive governments in our nation’s history. His promise to refuse any lobbyist a position within his government was broken in his first days in office. His push to raise taxes on cigarettes to pay for the SCHIP bill (which the GAO had already informed the Bush administration would not be possible to completely fund the bill through such a tax alone) also immediately broke his pledge not to raise taxes on one single American making less than the $250,000 self imposed cap. Everyone knows that the vast majority of smokers are from the poor and middle class.
He has broken the laws of his own country by firing several Inspector Generals even as he has already appointed more than 40 “Czars” which report only to him and who work in his shadow. Make no mistake these people are not elected by “We” the people nor are they accountable to “We” the people. They are accountable only to Obama.
Have you ever wondered why, if nearly 40 percent of Americans claim to be conservative, and another 40 percent (primarily independents) claim to be “moderate,” it is the approximately 20 percent which claim to be “liberal” that seem to always be running the show? Because it is this tiny minority that mandates our taxpaying dollars to fund their like-minded liberal organizations and agencies, even as they have enacted laws prohibiting the majority from doing the same. During the entire eight years of the Bush administration we were fed a constant and erroneous mantra of “Bush lied, people died.”
I don’t blame the Obama’s, the Kennedy’s, the Rockefellers, Pelosi’s, or Reeds. The blame lies with the American voters who continue voting these types of people into office over and over and over again. How else did we end up with Bush ‘41, Clinton, and Bush ‘43, out of a nation of more than 300 million people? Does anyone really want to bet that we won’t see a Clinton 45 or another Bush 45? Do you really believe that New York City Mayor Bloomberg is the only person qualified to change the cities term limits to allow him to run for a third term from the millions of other New Yorkers available? What was the sense in legislating term limits if we are just going to allow the Bloomberg’s and others to change the laws to their benefit?
Its “We” the people that are to blame. Our nation was designed to allow “We” the people to govern ourselves through our elected officials. Our representatives. A nation of the people, for the people, and by the people. It is what sets us as a nation apart from every other nation past or present, and it has been the most spectacular success in human history. The Egyptians, the Romans, Greeks, the Spaniards, the British; none of them even came close to the phenomenal success that is America.
Our founding fathers knew that one of the greatest dangers to this “experiment” was that it would require work and constant diligence on the part of “We” the people to make it work. To vote for every name with a “Democrat” next to the candidates name on the ballot makes no more sense than voting for every name with “Republican” next to their name. That is utter nonsense. It is putting our rights as Americans on auto-pilot and is not only incredibly lazy but certain to ensure that rather than the most qualified candidate being voted into these powerful positions we may as well use rock-paper-scissors to determine who will both represent “We” the people represent our nation to the rest of the world as well.
“We” the people must never forget that the freedoms and lifestyles that we are accustomed to, and often take for granted, are never more than a generation from being lost. When we see every slight real or imagined, as an opportunity to hit the “jackpot” through litigation, we have lost our way. When we don’t think twice about our elected officials, persons who are supposed to represent large numbers of their “constituents” or fellow Americans, calling the genuine concerns of those self same constituents “Astroturf” or an angry “mob,” or when our highest elected official calls an entire police department out by saying that they acted “stupidly” and we don’t think to consider the fact that these elected officials are supposed to be representing the majority of Americans, and not just their like-minded cronies and friends, then we have already shown our ignorance and declared ourselves to be to lazy to effectively govern ourselves and a nation tends to get the government that they deserve.
When we see our fellow citizens utilizing their First Amendment right to disagree with what our “elected” officials say or wish, only to be castigated, ridiculed, their reputations besmirched, and their livelihood or freedom threatened or actually lost; then we deserve the fate that our “elected” officials decide for us. Whatever that fate may be. If you genuinely believe that capitalism is evil and that a nation of people can’t actually govern themselves, then what alternative would you be able to offer? I am very confident that any alternative you can name has already been tried and has failed to produce the unmitigated success of the system envisioned and started by our founding fathers.
It is time for the 80 percent majority of American’s to take back our country and stand up to the tiny minority that have gained such authority in our land. To be proud of our form of capitalism, self-governance, our Constitution and Bill of Rights. To accept that our founding fathers actually believed that religion, specifically Judeo-Christian traditions were, and are, an important part of our process. To educate ourselves and our families and friends in the glorious and awe inspiring history of the greatest nation to ever exist in human history. No other nation has stood more on the side of the righteous and the good, than has the United States of America. Any American who doesn’t believe that is certainly free to do so, but they should not be the ones that “We” the people elect to powerful positions of our government.
If the last seven months hasn’t proven that by now then it really is too late for us, our loved ones, and our country. “We” the people saw and felt a bit of that pride in the days and months following the tragedy of 9/11. It’s time to reclaim that pride, as Americans, not as whites, Latinos, blacks, males or females, Democrats, Republicans or Independents, but as Americans. It’s long past due for our wake up call as Americans or else by the time we rouse ourselves from our slumber the nation we wake up to will no longer be American.
