The Fox & the Henhouse

Obama has frequently claimed that he does not want to run private insurance, banking, and auto companies, even as he continues imposing his unquestioned influence in those very same institutions. Obama claims that he has enough on his plate, what with two wars and the economic meltdown. Once again Obama says one thing while doing the very opposite. Despite his supposedly “full plate” of wars and economic woe, he is still insisting on completely revamping our energy market sector through cap and trade, ditto with the national health care proposal and now claiming it is time to call for “new rules of the road” with the financial sector. Rules of course that HE is imposing.

Obama’s plan is to eliminate one “weak” federal oversight watchdog, the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), while creating a stronger new government oversight office (a consumer protection agency) that would guard against credit and other abuses while also creating another new council of regulators. This new council would be led by the Treasury Department and would police the entire financial system for risky products. Obama claims this is needed due to a “culture of irresponsibility” from Wall Street to Main Street, apparently forgetting the overwhelming corruption of his fellow political leaders themselves.

We, the people, are supposed to forget that there are already a host of government regulatory bodies that are overstaffed and obviously overpaid by we, the people, and who have equally obviously failed to prevent the current economic meltdown. Why? Because it was those same government bureaucracies, along with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack, and the twin goons of the Democratic Parties financial oversight committees; Senator Chris Dodd, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, and Rep. Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, who may have had more to do with our current financial mess than any other entity or persons. These are the same goons who pushed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack into making ridiculous home loans to unqualified people, with the assistance of such luminaries as Bill “The Mentos” Clinton and Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and their respective “community” organizations.

Did I mention that there is probably no other non-governmental person that spends more time in the White House with the dear leader Obama, than Al Sharpton? It’s good to see the dear one so chummy with yet another racist with a troubling past, yet if the Israeli Foreign Minister wishes an audience with the dear leader, he is told to use the equivalent of the “servant’s entrance.”

Yes, placing the likes of Franks and Dodd in charge of the financial industries is akin to placing the fox in the henhouse to “care” for the chickens.
